JSIMS: The Japanese Society for Information and Media Studies

Established in June 10, 2000, JSIMS has been actively engaged in research in the areas of analog and digital information in a variety of information media including text and multimedia. JSIMS encourages interdisciplinary research, overcoming the limitations of traditional library and information science as well as informatics. Our mission is to establish a new discipline, which deals with information media from a holistic and organized perspective. Toward this, we have been focusing our research on social infrastructures, management techniques, system-scientific researches, and researches on human factors and cognitive mechanisms in content development. We have also focused on physical materials used to develop the various information media. Our unique position is to not only support academic research, but also to promote excellent information artifacts such as contents, databases, programs, etc. enabling their great value to be recognized in the society at large.
